Hey Oppo, what’s on the hood of this car? What purpose does it serve? I’ve never seen anything like it.

I believe it is a bug deflector so the windshield stays nice and clean. Basically creates airflow up and over the windscreen preventing any bugs from hitting the window.

I was watching chasing classic cars and he went over it. Most people think it is for bugs, it is actually for the wiper blades to stay on the windshield at high speeds.

Deflects air over the lights.

That or it’s there to help better manage airflow OVER the roof lights for better aero.

I’ve read somewhere these are a HUD strip, it’s so the police don’t have to look down at every thing, its displayed on the giant bugdeflector.

It helps deflect air over the huge light bar on the roof.

Blood deflector. Keeps pedestrian inestines off the windshield, which reduces wear on the wiper motors.

Its so the driver can see the sky line.

Too far forward and you cut into the intake/cooling vent airflow. Too far back and it has to be so tall it interferes with the view.

Not just bugs, they used to run driver side only deflectors on the hood to get rain over the windscreen, mud etc.. at Le Mans too. Helped visibility. I know I have a pic of some, I will look. I don’t really know why a Japanese cop car needs one but it could help in heavy rain, but it does look like a track car they made, so yeah the lights on top maybe the answer. My 240Z wipers are shit and I thought about making one!

I has to be for the lights on top. Bugs, well, thats just something every car deals with. Not hard to get out a paper towel. The wipers is a reasonable answer, BUT I don’t think Nissan would install wipers that couldn’t be used. It’s a police car, not a race car. The one major thing on this car that is on no other GTR is the roof lights, and they don’t look the most aerodynamic. So, my educated guess is that the air deflector is to create some noise in the flow of air going up the windshield.

The post below by 415s30 shows some of the old race cars that did it. I thought it was pretty interesting, and I trust Wayne Carini he knows cars better than most.

I’ve read that too, but I haven’t found other sources to back it up. The other comments here are a lot more sound.

Hey, you’re grey on oppo!
I guess the rain-redirect is the most plausible one as well.
